Shillong (21.04.2026): After former Meghalaya Chief
Secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang (Retd IAS: 1993: AM) claims to have refused to contest Lok Sabha by-elections,
the state BJP has responded by saying that it did not offered a party ticket to
former Chief Secretary for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha byelection. The BJP
stated that a remark by senior party leader and Pynthorumkhrah legislator AL
Hek on the matter was his “personal statement” and not the party’s decision. Outlining the party’s candidate selection process, the
statement said, “BJP is a rules and process based organization. Allotment of
party ticket for any election mandatorily follows certain procedures laid down
by the central steering group of the party.” ALSO READ Former Chief Secretary declines BJP’s by-poll overture (20.04.2026)
