Rebels remove Mamata as party chief; set to claim their group as real TMC

Kolkata (23.06.2026): A redux of Maharashtra in West Bengal when rebels grew bigger to remove the founder of the party from the top job. The TMC rebel group has not only removed Mamata Banerjee as chairperson of the party but suspended her nephew and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. They have constituted a new team of office bearer with Arup Roy as the new chairperson of the party. The faction also appointed Aroop Biswas, Firhad Hakim, Rathin Ghosh and Sabina Yasmin as vice-chairpersons.Ritabrata Banerjee, Javed Khan and Sandipan Saha were named general secretaries, while Akhruzzaman Ansari was appointed treasurer. They want to be recognised as the real TMC by the Election Commission of India.
