BJP President Nadda announces new team: Ram Madhav, GVL & Muralidhar Rao dropped, Tejaswi youth wing’s chief

Eight months after taking over as National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday announced the 70-member national executive committee as his new team.

What is more surprising is the absence of big names like G V L Narasimha Rao, Ram Madhav and P Muralidhar Rao in the list. While GVL was the national official spokesman, Ram Madhav from Andhra and P Muralidhar Rao from Telangana was the national general secretaries in the previous term. It is yet not known whether they will be given another assignment.

Tejashwi Surya (BJP MP) has been made the new President of Yuva Morcha; the party’s youth wing. Tejaswi replaces Poonam Mahajan.

The new team was expected in April but due to the coronavirus epidemic and nationwide lockdown, the party high command could neither convene the new team nor convene a meeting of national officials by calling a meeting of the National Executive and Council.

Reportedly, he had prepared a list of national officials a few months back after brainstorming with senior party leaders.

The fate of Ram Madhav and Muralidhar Rao hang in balance: Churning for a new team continues

The two important general secretaries in the former BJP president Amit Shah’s team – Ram Madhav and Muralidhar Rao – may not be retained as general secretaries in the new team led by president Jagat Prakash Nadda. The new president is working on the formation of his team with the consultation of the senior leadership of the party but these two leaders will either be made vice presidents or will be given some other responsibilities. On the other hand, former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das is likely to be brought in the organisation as a general secretary.

There is a possibility that the responsibility of media management may be passed on to national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi in view of the health condition of present media cell in-charge Anil Baluni. Trivedi may be given some bigger responsibility as he has been handling the media the best possible way. He was very articulate in Parliament debates. Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha may also be brought in to the organisation as he has the experience of working with the present president. Chances of present national secretary Sunil Deodhar being elevated to the general secretary is discussed in some quarters.

Sources said that Rao is almost certain to be made vice president but uncertainty still prevails over the fate of Ram Madhav. Some say that he might be sent back to the RSS as former organising secretary Ram Lal. However, both the leaders were not only hoping Rajya Sabha but also ministerial berth. One important inclusion in the organisation will be from Tamil Nadu.

In a situation where the BJP is focusing more in the southern states, these leaders failed to deliver especially Rao. Both the leaders belong to undivided Andhra Pradesh. Rao belonging to the present-day Telangana failed to make any mark which is very crucial for the party.

Has the time come for Jayanti Natrajan to don saffron robe?

By IndianMandarins 18 May 2020

Is this the time for former Union minister and three-term Rajya Sabha member Jayanti Natrajan to join the BJP? The way she is defending the government in TV debates and opposing the stand taken by the Congress and its high command, it appears that the time has come for her to don a saffron robe.

The BJP is very aggressive in two southern states – Telangana and Tamil Nadu. The party is not only strengthening the organisation in these states especially in TN but also reaching out to masses. A campaign is run across the state in a very subtle manner to dilute Dravidian identity and bring Hindutva identity to the fore.

This is to recall that when Rajnikant attacked social reformer Periyar EV Ramasamy who started the Dravidian movement in the state, political parties like DMK, AIDMK and other Dravidian outfits not only criticized Rajnikant but asked him to apologize. But he stood his ground despite several cases were registered against him.

With two Tamil Brahmins in the Modi cabinet – External Affairs minister S Jaishanker and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman – the BJP might have some bigger plans for the state. The strategy of the BJP as has always been to pick some establish leaders from the region to make its strength is working in Tamil Nadu too.

In such a situation, if Natrajan joins the BJP and works in Tamil Nadu as she is based in Chennai, it will be definitely a treasure for the party. She is bitter about the Gandhi family as she was asked to resign as Union environment minister and work for the party unceremoniously. She resigned from the Congress holding Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi making her scapegoat. She had also accused the interference of Rahul Gandhi in the working of the ministry. So there is a lot to unfold in Tamil Nadu.

Nominated members embarrass BJP; does party appreciate it?

By IndianMandarins 20 Mar 2020

The BJP is quite often embarrassed by its two academicians nominated members in the Rajya Sabha for breaching party lines. If some insiders are to be believed it is difficult for the party to rein in both the leaders as one draws its strength from his own activities, qualifications and taking on Gandhies while the other draws it from the RSS which has come down to its lowest ebb now.

If the elder one is constantly embarrassing the government by attacking FinMin for handling Indian economy badly then the younger one is talking about bringing bill to do away with ‘socialism’ and ‘secularism’ from the preamble of the Indian Constitution.

He also caused flutter when he had announced in 2018 bringing Private Member Bill in Rajya Sabha to take legislative way to facilitate construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya but he was given a dressing down by one of the party general secretaries at the BJP headquarters by asking if the party wanted or the RSS asked for it. He was speechless and constantly demanded audience of the then president Amit Shah. Hope this time round, the BJP leader has sanctions from the party as he is close the present party president.

Is PK’s professional advise to AAP a bigger reason for fall out from JD(U)?

By IndianMandarins 30 Jan 2020

You can’t sink the ship you too are sailing in, this is the crux of the story of departure of Prashant Kishor from JD(U). When a political strategist speaks his mind in public instead of giving indoor suggestion to the top leadership of the party he is a formal member then there is something wrong somewhere but departure could have been respectable. At least the way Prashant Kishor has fallen out of the JD(U) gives testimony to the fact that it was more than CAA that caused his exit.

Actually his professional interests have been in clash with the JD (U), so he was looking for some way out and JD (U) too was feeling the burden of having him in the party. When Prashant Kishor started looking after pool management of AAP, the first thing that he did was suggesting AAP to attack Manoj Tiwari by calling Pinkiya ke Papa making him a political pigmy.

Amid talks between the BJP and JD(U), these things have not gone down well with the alliance which has a bigger plan with poorvanchalies with this alliance in Delhi, Bihar and West Bengal. Pawan Verma spoke for Kishor questioning JD(U) alliance with the BJP in Delhi. Actually JD(U) joining hands with BJP in Delhi will disturb his strategy for West Bengal

Prashant Kishor committed mistake once against by putting on shoes much bigger than his size. So they constantly attacked the JDU’s decision on CAA but he actually wanted his professional outreach to grow. He is likely to join Trinamool Congress soon. But his advises on poorvanchalies to AAP infuriated not only the BJP but also JDU.

Nadda to take over as full time BJP President today

By IndianMandarins 20 Jan 2020

The BJP is going to get a new president on January 20, 2020 with the name of former Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda likely to announced to succeed Union home minister Amit Shah as the party chief. Nadda is the working president of the BJP at the moment. His term as BJP National President will be for three years.

Nadda has the daunting task of dealing with two crucial Assembly elections – Delhi that is underway and West Bengal being the most difficult one – besides taking the message of the party to people on CAA.

Nadda is known for his organisational acumen right from the time of ABVP. He was elected to Himachal Pradesh Assembly thrice and held the responsibility of cabinet minister under Prem Kumar Dhumal before moving to Delhi as party general secretary.

He was party general secretary under Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and also under Amit Shah before being elevated as working president. Nadda got his education in Patna, Bihar before shifted to Himachal Pradesh.

Modi may pick Marandi for ministerial berth; JVM’s merger into BJP likely

By IndianMandarins 11 Jan 2020

With a severe drubbing in Jharkhand Assembly elections, the BJP is now looking at ways and means to strengthen the party in the state. One such attempt may reflect in the ‘Ghar Wapsi’ of former Jharkhand CM Babu Lal Marandi.

Reportedly, Marandi may join the BJP anytime after Makar Sankranti that is on January 15, 2020. Marandi is still one of the most popular and strong BJP leader in the state but BJP leader Arjun Munda played key role in ensuring Marandi’s with the help of BJP’s central leadership like Rajnath Singh, M Venkaiyah Naidu and Advani. Later Marandi was forced to quit the BJP paving way for Arjun Munda as CM. Over a period of time BJP realised that it was a loss for Marandi and BJP both. In Jharkhand Assembly elections Marandi led JVM too has fared badly in the election and his resources have also tried up. It is believed that Marandi ‘Ghar Wapsi’ may kick start his revival in politics.

The BJP also wants to win over tribals in the state and a strong tribal leader like Marandi joining the BJP again will definitely benificial for both.

Shah to focus more on home ministry for many unfinished works

By IndianMandarins 16 Oct 2019

Before relinquishing his post as party president by December, BJP president Amit Shah not only wants to train the new president to his style of working but also want major work of the party to be done. Now Shah wants to pay his complete attention of the home ministry where several unfinished issues are to be accomplished.

Shah has announced that he would make way for a new leader to head the BJP after party’s organisational elections are over by the end of this year. Shah wants state organization to be of his choice and by the time elections process of Delhi and Jharkhand will be started if not over.

Tenure of Shah gets over in December this year and it is likely that the present national executive president Jagat Prakash Nadda will be made the fulltime president of the party.

It was expected that Shah will make way for a new leader after being inducted as a Cabinet minister by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his government following ‘one person one post’ but he remained at the helm to complete some unfinished task.  Organisational elections are going on and a new president will assume responsibility in next two months’ time to take care of the party affairs.
