The BJP is planning to mark the 70th year of India's Independence with a grand celebration stretching over a week from August 15 to 22, with rallies of two-wheelers called Tiranga Yatra in every constituency where the party has an MP. The plans were sketched out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting of the BJP parliamentary party on Tuesday.
"Mr. Modi spoke on two issues… one is related to the fact that the last two sessions (of Parliament) have seen increasing debate and work being done. This means MPs should now concentrate on reading up on the issues coming up in Parliament and try to raise the levels of public discourse. The second is related to celebrating the 70 anniversary of Independence," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said.
