New BJP govt in Bihar contemplates lifting ban on liquor

Patna (21.04.2026): With the BJP Chief Minister at the helm in Bihar, the state government is contemplating one of the most successful yet controversial Liquor ban by former Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Successful because it brough women folks to support Nitish Kumar and controversial because it created space for liquor smuggling and production of spurious country made liquor causing deaths of many. Nitish still continued with it as it reduced domestic violence despite huge loss of excise to exchequer. The BJP government is left with two option one to curb smuggling with stern measure and second to lift ban and gain excise.
