Even as 1989 batch IAS officers are keenly waiting for empanelment as Additional Secretaries in Govt of India, a few lateral shifts of some 1889 batch officers, though considered bright and competent, have added to the apprehensions of entire batch and their peers- more so because whenever it comes to personnel and establishment issues, there has always been some surprises in selections.
However, it is learnt that the government may shortly clear the empanelment of 1989 batch officers for the posts of additional secretary. And the list may be out within a month.
Among the officers from the 1989 batch who have been laterally shifted are Devesh Chaturvedi (lAS:1989:UP), Govind Mohan (lAS:1989:SK), Lok Ranjan (IAS:1989:TR), and Sunil Bharthwal (lAS:1989:BH).
These lateral shiftings, however, have made many 1989 batch officers wonder about their own prospects since the process of their empanelment as additional secretaries remain frozen at the moment.
Further, since the 360-degree method is seen as rigorous, it is but natural that 1989 batch officers have come to entertain some apprehensions about their own prospects.
