UP CM Akhilesh Singh Yadav has shaken up the bureaucratic structure of Noida, Gnoida, and Yeida, and transferred 21 IAS officers. Agriculture Production Commissioner Pravir Kumar (IAS:1982:UP) has been made Chairman, Noida, Greater Noida and YEIDA. He has also been made the CEO, YEIDA. This ends the persistent speculation about the ouster of Rama Raman (IAS:1987:UP) in the backdrop of Allahabad High Court's recent directions.
It is believed that Akhilesh Yadav may have achieved a multiple of objectives with one single move.
Kumar is considered an officer with credentials. Recently, the UP Govt's move not to make him UP Chief Secretary raised many questions about its image and intent. Appointing him as Chairman of the three Authorities may help save the image of corruption-ridden authorities. This was urgent in view of the next year UP Assembly elections. These three urban authorities had become synonymous with corruption, especially after Yadav Singh's arrest. Known as one of the most powerful officers in the state, Rama Raman held the top positions of these authorities for over seven long years.
The appointment of Kumar also helps the CM send out a message his Govt does not really overlook the seniority and ability of officers.
At the same, by continuing Rama Raman as CEO, Noida Authority the govt made it clear that it still needed a solution giving officer who understands the needs of political executive of the state well.
