New Delhi (22.07.2026): As Indianmandarins reported first (11.06.2026)the NaMo administration has appointed Anurag Jain (IAS: 1989: MP) as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. He will have a tenure of more than two years at the helm of the apex policy think-tank.
Currently, he is serving as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. He was scheduled to complete his extended tenure as CS on August 31, 2026.
The top post at the premier policy think-tank had been lying vacant since February 23, 2026, following the completion of former CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam’s (Retd IAS: 1987: CG) extended tenure. In the interim, 1994-batch Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer Nidhi Chhibber was holding the additional charge of CEO.
Widely regarded in bureaucratic circles as a trusted hand with extensive experience in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Jain’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to steer policy formulation at the apex level.
Prior to his repatriation to his home state as Chief Secretary, he held key Union portfolios, including Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
His previous stint at the Centre also includes crucial postings as Vice Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Additional Secretary in the PMO, making his transition to NITI Aayog a natural fit for the think-tank's mandate.
