Bhopal (27.09.2024): The extended tenure of Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary (CS) Veera Rana (IAS: 1988: MP) is coming to an end on September 30, 2024 still there is no clarity on the name of her successor. Since the state government has not sent any proposal seeking the extension in service of Veera Rana, it is almost clear that MP is going to get a new CS. Reportedly, she will be made State CIC post her retirement whichIndianmandarins reported earlier as well.
The question that who will be the next CS in the state has captured the imagination of people in the power corridors of Bhopal.
Broadly three names are doing rounds -- Anurag Jain (IAS: 1989: MP), Rajesh Kumar Rajora (IAS: 1990: MP) and Sheonarayan Misra (IAS: 1990: MP). Insiders say that Mishra joined the race recently whose retirement is due in January next year. With only four months to perform ahead of retirement will keep him occupied with his retirement plans though extensions in service may help him alternatively. Considering the track record of Mishra, the BJP governments at the Centre and state may not shy away from giving him an extension yet the other two names appear to have gathered more weight.
It is believed that the Centre may not find it apt to send Anurag Jain back to the state as Secretary for Road Transport and Highways has to play a key role in a ministry which is politically critical for the New Delhi establishment. As far as Rajora is concerned, he has proven his competence and utility in running the affairs when he was Principal Secretary to former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. What makes him the most prospective among the three is that he was recently brought to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) MP as the Additional CS. It indicates the level of comfort of CM Mohan Yadav with Rajora who has over three years remaining in service. Rajora’s placement in CMO months ahead of the completion of Ms Rana’s tenure was seen as CM’s preparedness with an advanced succession plan.
In case the Centre insists on the name of Jain as the next CS the deal is done but in case the CM is given to exercise his choice and comfort, Rajora may replace Veera Rana early next week.
