New Delhi (30.09.2024): Hours before Veera Rana (IAS: 1988: MP) retires today as State Chief Secretary the New Delhi establishment sends Anurag Jain (IAS: 1989: MP) back to the state. It is understood that honouring New Delhi’s choice MP Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav picked and announced Anurag Jain as the new Chief Secretary of the state. He has terms in service till 31.08.2025 which may be extended further as well.
Jain, considered a PMO’s man, is currently serving as Union Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).
Jain's repatriation as CS further sparks off hope for IAS officers awaiting posting as Secretary in Govt of India. The decision adds one more Secretary-level vacancy in MoRTH. Three Secretary-level postsare already lying vacant at the Centre namely Secretary, Coal; Secretary, Department of Public Enterprise and Ministry of Culture.
A similar decision took place recently when the Centre repatriated Union Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena (IAS: 1989: BH) on 31.08.2024 for his appointment as Bihar Chief Secretary. One may still recall the unique case of Durga Shanker Mishra when Centre had abruptly extended his service and repatriated him for his "proposed appointment as chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh".
A section of insiders believes that the decision came as Centre’s ‘veto’ but it is interesting to underline that Dr Mohan Yadav himself was New Delhi’s choice as Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s successor.
