New Delhi (11.06.2026): The race for the next NITI Aayog CEO has intensified, with three Union Secretary-rank IAS officers in the reckoning. Bureaucratic insiders suggest that Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anurag Jain (Retd IAS: 1989: MP) has emerged as a frontrunner for the premier think-tank’s top job.The position has been held as an additional charge by Nidhi Chhibber (IAS: 1994: CG), currently serving as DG, DMEO at NITI, since BVR Subrahmanyam (Retd IAS: 1987: CG) completed his tenure on February 24, 2026. Subrahmanyam, appointed in February 2023, had previously received a one-year extension in 2025. A permanent appointment is expected shortly to steer the apex policy body.
