New Delhi (03.12.2025): As Indianmandarins reported earlier (Report dated 22.09.2025) the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has granted a one-year extension to Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), effectively extending his term until December 6, 2026.

The decision was announced just weeks before Singh’s current three-year tenure, which began on December 7, 2022, was set to conclude on December 6, 2025. Singh, a veteran energy professional and former CMD of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), was initially appointed under relaxed age-related norms, marking a rare non-conventional selection for the PSU top job.

Simultaneously, the ACC has initiated the succession process by constituting a three-member Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) to identify Singh's long-term replacement. PESB Chairperson Mallika Sriniwasan has been named as the Chairperson of the high-powered committee. New Union Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal (IAS: 1992: TN) has been named as the Member, while B Ashok, Ex-chairman of IOCL, has been named as Outside expert of eminence

The dual move highlights the government’s policy of ensuring administrative continuity at India’s largest oil and gas producer while adhering to the process of finding a permanent head for the company.
