NEW DELHI (22.09.2025): The Chairman of Maharatna CPSE Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Arun Kumar Singh, is reportedly being considered for an extension beyond his current three-year term, which concludes on December 6, 2025.
According to well-placed Raisina sources, the New Delhi establishment has received a proposal recommending a two-year extension for Singh. While the final decision remains with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), insiders suggest the move could see him secure an extended tenure of either one or two years.
This development follows an earlier move by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), which had floated a vacancy for the position on March 3, 2025. The possibility of a new Search-cum-Selection process, which had been rumoured for the top post, now appears unlikely with the push for an extended term for the incumbent chairman.
Arun Kumar Singh, a former CMD of BPCL, was appointed as the full-time Chairman of ONGC following a prolonged period of ad-hocism, succeeding Shashi Shanker who superannuated on March 31, 2021.
If the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approves the proposal, Arun Kumar Singh will continue to lead ONGC until December 2027.
