HYDERABAD (10.06.2026): It appears to be a deadlock over the appointment of new Chief Secretary of Telangana as the state government is mooting third extension for incumbent CS K Ramakrishna Rao (IAS: 1991: TG) whose extended tenure is ending this month-end.
The state government has failed to zero in on one name among several contenders so far for various reasons. Rao retired from service on August 31, 2025 but his tenure that was subsequently extended by nine months ending on June 30, 2026.
Though there are several names being discussed as potential successors that included Sanjay Jaju (IAS: 1992: TG), Sabyasachi Ghosh (IAS: 1994: TG), Jayesh Ranjan (IAS: 1992: TG) and Vikas Raj (IAS: 1992: TG). In terms of seniority, Shashank Goel (IAS: 1990: TG) is the senior-most officer in the cadre. However, he is due to retire in September.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has better relations with the Centre than any other Chief Minister of the Congress, in such a situation, it is being speculated that he may manage to get one more extension for the CS to avoid pulls and pressures for some more time.
