New Delhi (13.09.2023): With the extremely stretched term of Sanjay Kumar Mishra (IRS IT: 1984) as Enforcement Directorate Chiefcoming to an end on September 15, the power corridors are flooded with speculations and wild guesses.
Sources say that now the Centre, honouring the Supreme Court’s timeline, is about to complete procedures of selection of Mishra’s successor. According to sources, two names were sent for IB report and other requisite clearances following which PM Narendra Modi will be taking the final call this week. Two prospective names include: Pravin Kumar (IRS IT: 1987), Member CBDT and Seemanchala Dash (IRS IT: 1988), formerly Principal Special Director in ED and Adviser to ED, IMF.
Indianmandarins had earlier reported a few more names as prospective candidates including Pankaj Kumar Mishra (IRS IT: 1989) while Rashmi Shukla (IPS: 1988: MH) as a most prospective dark horse. According to another set of sources Rahul Navin (IRS IT: 1993), Special Director in ED, was also among the shortlisted ones, has been among the front runners.
A section of insiders says that in case the New Delhi establishment picks up Dash as new ED Chief that would signal a quiet and smooth phase for ED like CBI was placed under Rishi Kumar Shukla but ahead of 2024 elections it appears a remote possibility.
In the present scenario Pravin Kumar appears to have the brightest prospects though none knows who else emerges as the dark horse.
