New Delhi (26.07.2023): The government has moved a petition in the Supreme Court seeking extension of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra (IRS IT: 1984). The term of Mishra is set to end on July 31, 2023 as per the Supreme Court judgment, which ruled that the extensions given to his term were illegal. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the Centre is filing an application with regards to the recent judgement about Mishra's term extension seeking the case to be listed before Friday.

The Centre has submitted to the SC that Financial Action Task Force (FATF) review team is scheduled for an on-site visit to India for three weeks from November 3 and intricacies of complex money laundering investigation may also need to be explained to them, which can be done only by a person with hands-on experience, so the government seeks extension.
