New Delhi (26.07.2023): CBDT on 06 July got four new members after a wait for over one-and-a-half-year and the new work roster of members is still awaited. Sources say that the same is expected only after the appointment or an ad-hoc arrangement of the new chief for the Directorate of Enforcement because of late the ED and CBDT have been working in tandem.

The SC in a mixed bag judgement has fixed July 31 as the last day for ED Chief SK Mishra in the office. With five days left in hand, one may expect the announcement of a new ED Chief shortly.  

The delay in the CBDT work-roster has given rise to the rumour that CBDT Chairman Nitin Gupta may get a fresh lease of career. In the event Gupta gets ED position, he would transcend the superannuation for a few more years as he is scheduled to retire on 30 September 2023. However, the Centre is still seeking extension for Mishra from the SC.
