Anil Kumar Jha (CMD, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited) on Friday appointed chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of Coal India Limited. He has been appointed to the post till his superannuation i.e. 31 January 2020.
It may be noted that following the retirement of Sutirtha Bhattacharya on August 31, 2017 Gopal Singh (CMD, CCL) was given the additional charge of CIL Chairman. Later in May this year Additional Secretary Suresh Kumar (IAS:1986:JK) was given additional charge of the CIL Chairman.
After the public-sector head-hunter (June last year) failed to find a suitable candidate for CIL top post the ball fell in the court of Coal Ministry following which a Search-cum-selection Committee was constituted. The committee had in March 2018 recommended A K Jha's name for the post.
