NEW DELHI (04.06.2026): In a move that signals a preference for technocrat at multilateral institutions, the Government of India has named Neelkanth Mishra as India’s next Executive Director at the World Bank Headquarters in Washington DC.
Mishra, a prominent economist known for his deep dive into India's structural growth, will serve a three-year term beginning from the date he assumes charge. The transition marks a shift from the traditional administrative guard as Mishra replaces Parameswaran Iyer (Retd IAS: 1981: UP), whose tenure concludes on June 19, 2026.
Simultaneously, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has signalled administrative continuity at the highest level by extending the term of Tarun Kapoor (Retd IAS: 1987: HP). Kapoor, who serves as Advisor to the Prime Minister, has been granted a one-year extension on a contract basis, effective beyond June 9, 2026.
