NEW DELHI (05.06.2026):The Congress has announced the list of seven candidates for the upcoming biennial Rajya Sabha elections. The party renominated its national president Mallikarjun Kharge from Karnataka. Gandhi loyalist and former Lok Sabha MP from Mandsaur Meenaakshi Natarajan has been given a ticket from Madhya Pradesh.
Congress’ media department head Pawan Khera has been given a Rajya Sabha ticket from Karnataka from where the party will get three seats. Khera had once questioned if there was any shortcomings in his devotion after he was overlooked by the party a few years ago for a ticket for the Upper House of Parliament.
Praveen Chakraborty managed to secure a berth in Rajya Sabha after playing the role of an important mediator between Vijay’s TVK and the Congress following the DMK’s defeat in the Assembly polls. The TVK had announced that it would not put up a candidate and gave the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu to the Congress.
Kharge’s media manager for all practical purposes, Pranav Jha, has been rewarded with a Rajya Sabha ticket from Jharkhand. A student of Delhi University, Jha’s election also signals the party’s overtures for the Brahmins. Mansoor Ali Khan has been fielded from Karnataka and Dalit leader Neeraj Dangi got a berth from his home state Rajasthan.
