NEW DELHI (05.06.2026): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 4, 2026 announced its candidates for June 2026 Rajya Sabha biennial elections and three by-elections. Interestingly, two Union Ministers -- Ravneet Singh Bittu and George Kurian – have not been considered for the Rajya Sabha even as their terms in the Upper House is ending on June 21, 2026. Bittu represents Rajasthan while Kurian is currently a member from Madhya Pradesh. They failed to break much ice in their respective states in view of recent Assembly and Local Body elections.
As per the list released by the BJP, former Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia has been fielded from his own state and party General Secretary Tarun Chugh has been fielded from Madhya Pradesh. Tai Tagak will contest from Arunachal Pradesh while Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansingh Parmar and Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya will fight from Gujarat. Rajneesh Agrawal too has been fielded from Madhya Pradesh, and A Sharda Devi has been fielded from Manipur.
Dr Alka Gurjar has been made candidate from Rajasthan. Former BJD leader who resigned from the party and the Rajya Sabha Debashish Samantaray has been fielded from Odisha in the by-election. The elections are scheduled on June 18, 2026. The biennial elections will be held for 24 seats across 10 states. By-polls for three seats in Maharashtra, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu will also be held on the same day.
