The appointment formally draws the curtains on a prolonged period of ad hoc arrangements at the helm of the country’s largest police force. Krishna, who has been handpicked for the top job, succeeds Prashant Kumar (IPS: 1990: UP), who had been serving in the position.

Unlike several of his predecessors who served short stints, Krishna is slated to remain in service until June 2029. The next Assembly Elections 2027 will be conducted under his command of the police force.
