Following a judgment of the Meghalaya HC, all 17 parliamentary secretaries of the state government were made to resign.
In its judgment, the Meghalaya high court held "invalid" the Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretaries (Appointment, Salaries, Allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2005. However, the court left the question of disqualification of the MLAs holding the post of parliamentary secretaries 'open' for determination by the governor, if it is raised in accordance with the law.
