Even though President Ramnath Kovind has declined (after initially agreeing) to attend a function associated with BJP MP R K Sinha whose name has appeared in the Paradise Papers, the Rajya Sabha MP has been tweeting about the President inaugurating the meeting.
Sinha's 'global enclave' event, scheduled for November 23-24, is backed by several ministries including home affairs, finance, labor and employment, commerce and industry, information and broadcasting, skill development and entrepreneurship and the ministry of micro, small & medium enterprises.
Sources said Sinha's International Institute of Security and Safety Management (IISSM) had approached Rashtrapati Bhavan to inaugurate the event and President initially agreed.
"However, when the MP's name appeared in the data leaked from Appleby (a firm dealing in offshore businesses), a decision was taken not to be part of the event, as the President wants to steer clear of such controversies."
