New Delhi (19.07.2024): Informed sources say that Rajiv Topno (IAS: 1996: GJ), former Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, may join Govt of Gujarat next week. Currently in Delhi on completion of tenure in the World Bank Topno is tipped to be roped in as Principal Secretary to Gujarat Chief Minister (CM) Bhupendra Patel; a void that he would suitably fill after the completion of successive extensions to K Kailashnathan as Chief Principal Secretary to Gujarat CM, a position specially created for him.
It has been the brand equity of the Gujarat model of administration where the government always had a bureaucrat who was unfathomably trusted while acting as an eyes and ears to the top authority and was functioning as a bridge between establishments in Gandhinagar and New Delhi and in the current scenario Topno captures the imagination of the New Delhi administration while celebrating the unquestionable trust.
What makes his possible appointment more plausible is that he has a tested track record of speaking his mind while communicating at the top. Further, he has been out of the Cadre since 2008 thus he doesn’t carry a baggage of being part of any network or a pressure group in the state.
