While moving a motion in the Upper House for electing one MP as a member of the Board, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien had asked if the government was planning to close the body and stop subsidies to the rubber growers. Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, "No plans to close the Board." The government does not have a plan to shut down the Rubber Board, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the Rajya Sabha. The Minister moved another motion in the House for electing an MP as a member on the Coffee Board.
