New Delhi (05.11.2022): One after another decisions taken by the new Twitter owner Elon Musk ever since he took over the social media giant left everyone in awe. Musk has fired almost all of the company's team in India. The Friday surgical strike on its Indian operation by divesting around 120 people out of 200 indicates that the richest man in the world is here with some plans. People are whispering some political plans as well. 

Buying Twitter at an overrated price by the Tesla chief was a little difficult to stomach for many but…

The action began reportedly with escorting out Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, Chief Content Moderator Vijaya Gadde, Chief Finance Officer Ned Segal, and General Counsel Sean Edgett from the Twitter headquarters. The message for the rest of the workers was clear in black and white when they were asked not to come to the office and if on the way take a reverse turn for home. The company has to get rid of over 75 per cent of workers, apparently who doesn’t suit the company, which comes to around 5,400 employees.

Working on many fronts together, initiatives have also started to turn the account book of the company from red to black when Musk announced to charge verification blue ticks for a particular Twitter account. What he says is really interesting, the Chief Twit Tweeted: “Power to the people! Blue for USD 8 per month.” But why so much hue and cry on the change of ownership of a social media company that was for leisurely activities of late? Because Twitter got transformed into an influencer and a tool for narrative building. Now it is into news break making it an alternate media. Head of states, politicians and business honchos are on the platform actively sharing their views, giving news, wishing good luck, expressing condolences and are able to reach out to unimaginable numbers. There are people with lakhs and millions of followers influencing people. Moreover, they were so powerful that they got account of former US Presidents blocked. So has been its impact on India which is a multiparty democracy with the oldest civilization and various fault lines. There is a lot to say and talk about in India.

A drastic cut into employees in India has certainly some meaning as 2024 General elections are not very far off. The way the US and Russian elections were manipulated in the past, nothing can be ruled out. But the sky is not yet clear who they are or it is just an apprehension. Let’s wait till the smog gets cleared.

Last but not least; US President Joe Biden's statement in Chicago Friday late evening; “Now what are we all worried about? Elon Musk goes out and buys an outfit that sends and spews lies all across the world," is something that may unfold with the passage of time only.
