The family may preferably be from the State to which the officer belongs and will be serving for a large part of his or her career. In a press release. the Association's honorary secretary, Sanjay Bhoosreddy, said it would be appropriate that IAS Officers adopt one family of a martyred soldier in their first place of posting as Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, and District Magistrate. He added We are requesting the State Governments and the GoI to issue necessary instructions in this regard to all concerned so that this arrangement gets institutionalized at the earliest. It listed out the following support that IAS officers can easily extend: A) Overseeing whether all the dues of the Martyred soldier has been paid to the dependents by the concerned Organisation and pursuing with them if there are any delays. B) Overseeing whether the support (both in cash and kind) pledged by the State or local Governments have been provided to the family and pursuing with them if there are any delays. C) Ensuring that the children of the martyred soldier continue getting a good education. D) Mentoring and guiding the children so that they can pursue the careers of their choice based on their aptitudes and talents. E) If any benefits can be provided from various schemes being run by the Governments, like the Skill India, Start-up India, Digital India, handholding and guiding the members of the families for availing such benefits. F) Regularly cross checking with the family that they are not subject to any harassment or exploitation through property disputes etc. If such a situation arises, then taking the matters up with the local administration and Police to ensure justice. G) If any member of the family is seriously sick or injured, then checking if adequate medical support is being provided both in private and Government hospitals. H) If the dependent family members are interested in starting some sort of business or a Start-up, helping them out through the Financial Institutions. The officer will not be required to provide any direct financial assistance to the adopted family, but support and handholding on a sustained basis so that they live with a sense of security and assurance that the country is taking care of them in their hours of crisis and tragedy.
