There is a fresh move to unite the remnants of the old Janata Parivar. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar is expected to be elected president of the JD(U) at its national executive meeting on April 10. He will then set in motion the formalities for effecting its merger with the Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) - a fact reported frist by the Indianmandarins a few days back, the Samajwadi Janata Party headed by industrialist Kamal Morarka and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha led by Babulal Morandi.
Although the stated objective behind this consolidation move is to create a third front before the UP assembly elections next year, the apparent reason is that both Ajit Singh and Kamal Morarka are desperate to get into the Rajya Sabha, while Nitish wants to leverage this consolidation to project himself as next PM. The question is if Nitish accommodates Ajit and Kamal as RS members from Bihar, Sharad Yadav and KC Tyagi may be left in the cold storage. That could spark off some sort of internal problems within the JD(U).
