Chandigarh (30.09.2024): For a goof up made by the Centre in
extending tenure, the Chandigarh Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra (IAS:
2007: PB) may not be able to join the office as the Punjab government denied to
relieve her. This is for the first time that an IAS officer having been given
farewell after her tenure ended was given a three months’ extension. This
happened one month after she had even returned to her parent cadre. Reportedly the Punjab government is not relieving Mitra as
she has already assumed the charge of a department, so the officer is unlikely
to join. Mitra had been given three-month extension out of which one month has already
been lapsed. The Punjab government had sent a panel of three IAS officers –
Amit Kumar, Ramvir, and Girish Dayalan – who were frontrunners for the post of
MC Commissioner. ALSO READ
