The Department of Personnel and Training has finally disclosed the names of Lokpal aspirants.
The list of names, made public by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) follows an order of Information Commissioner Sudhir Bhargava on the plea of Subhash Agrawal, shows the Supreme Court has nominated three of its retired Justices Gyan Sudha Mishra, C K Prasad and Balbir Singh Chauhan for the post of chairman. It has also nominated its retired judge Ranjana Desai as Judicial Member.
The list includes Judges of various Commissions and Tribunals as well. These are: Justice Rajesh Tandon, Member, Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission; Justice Harbans Lal, Chairman, VAT Tribunal, Punjab; Justice Jagdish Bhalla, Chairman, Punjab State Human Right Commission; Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakri, Chairperson, Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission, Hyderabad; Justice M.S.A. Siddiqui, Chairman, National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions; and Justice Prafulla Kumar Mishra, Chairperson, State Human Rights Commission, Goa. Retired Judges aspiring for the post are: Justice Sabhajeet Yadav (Allahabad HC); Justice M. Karpaga Vinayagam (Jharkhand HC); Justice T. Meena Kumari (AP HC); and Justice Paul Daniel Dinakaran Premkumar (Sikkim HC) Justice Yad Ram Meena, former Chief Justice of Gujarat HC; and Justice Permod Kohli, former Chief Justice of Sikkim HC also feature in the list.
Retired Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court M Karpaga Vinayagam, who is Chairman, Appellate Tribunal for Electricity, former UGC member and former Information Commissioner M M Ansari, Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu are said to be among those who have applied for the post directly.
