Scheduled to hang boots today Naresh Kumar will now continue to head the bureaucratic framework of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) till May 31, 2024. Meaning hereby, he will be in full command of GNCTD till 2024 Lok Sabha Polls.
Contrary to the the speculations over higher judiciary’s directions to the Centre and the Delhi government to shortlist and share the names of suitable candidates with each other for Delhi Chief Secretary post what came as a final outcome appeared destined as well as designed.
Interestingly, the Supreme Court last week asked the Centre to recommend three names, and the Delhi government would choose an option from the list. As per the directions three names would be shared after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta discusses those with the central government.
But finally, SC apparently reserved the right of the Centre to take final call which gave a fresh lease of career to Naresh Kumar. Following the orders issued last night he will continue as Delhi CS till 31 May 2024; a timeframe that will be crucial for 2024 Lok Sabha Polls.
