The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday, again deferred finalising the crucial chapter on Strategic Partners and Partnerships even as it finalised the annexures to the newly released Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP) 2016. The chapter requires the approval of the Finance Ministry as well as the Cabinet Committee on Security.
The DPP, which came into effect on April 2, was officially unveiled by Parrikar during the Defence Expo held last month in Goa. "The DAC finalised all the annexures to the DPP. The chapter on Strategic Partners and Partnerships is yet to be finalised," a Defence Ministry spokesperson said.
The Defence Minister had earlier stated that in the revised procurement policy, the private sector is expected to play a greater role and that it might take a couple of months for the policy to be finalised.
