New Delhi (08.01.2025): Former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri is likely to be dropped from Kalkaji Assembly seat as the BJP candidate for his uncouth remark on Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Actually, the party is faced with a tricky dilemma where it has to choose between women and Gujjar voters of Delhi. In any case a section of them may keep away from voting the BJP.
Meanwhile, a section in the BJP feels that dropping Bidhuri will help the party to score over the Congress whose leaders have made sexist comment on numerous occasions including during last Jharkhand and Maharashtra elections still the Congress refrained from taking any action against them. The other section feels that not dropping would cost the BJP Delhi elections which tom toms its ideological commitment for respecting women folks. Another section in the BJP feels that dropping Bidhuri would put the Congress in a fix as it won’t be able to target the BJP.
A section of political analysts feels that the socked BJP after PM Modi was not invited to Donald Trump’s swearing in is ready to send across a message that it is very much concerned as far as respecting women are concerned but this argument seems far-fetched. The BJP under Modi is worried about its global image which could become a reason for dropping Bidhuri. Interestingly the Congress is unable to capitalise on its own on this issue despite the matter being of Gandhies. The Congress is not even doing half what it did when Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were summoned by the ED. Even AAP is not ready to rake up the issue despite being INDIA partners and rather is speaking against the Congress.
So, to salvage the situation, the BJP may field a women candidate from Kalkaji making it an all-women contest with the Congress fielding Alka Lamba and AAP having Delhi CM Atishi as its candidate. Bidhuri was denied ticket in the Lok Sabha for his alleged comment on fellow MP Kunwar Danish Ali and his community.
While speaking on the condition of roads in Kalkaji, Ramesh Bidhuri said: "Just as we improved roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all roads in Kalkaji as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks." BJP president JP Nadda reprimanded Bidhuri after this remark. Bidhuri was forced to apologise for his comment but the Congress seems to be planning to make it an election issue in the city.
