The outgoing ITPO CMD L C Goyal is said to have been so attached with its most ambitious project (Convention Centre) that he kept the entire convention centre project close to his chest. In the meanwhile his two years long tenure as its CMD is approaching fast. The CMD had been aspiring to complete the project by December 2018 so that it could be inaugurated by the PM ahead of G20 summit. But reportedly, the Govt of India couldn't even think of hosting the G20 as the country's capital does not have any convention centre to host such an event. May it be noted that the country's biggest and most 'state of the art' convention centre has missed several timelines. The project has been delayed. The 'Ground Breaking' ceremony was expected or scheduled for 15 July 2017 but it couldn't happen. In the meanwhile the estimated project cost too escalated too high. The sanctioned amount for the project was put at Rs 2254 Crs, DPR worth Rs 2,391 Crs, and bids said be made at Rs 3300 Crs. Ahead of completion of his tenure ending 02 Sept 2017 power corridors are also abuzz that being the sole expert on the ambitious project, his departure may leave everyone clueless about the project. So is it a deliberate strategy to compel the govt to grant him an extension?
