Y C Modi (IPS:1984:AM) on Monday took over as new chief of National Investigative Agency (NIA). He replaced Sharad Kumar (IPS:1979:HY) who completed his tenure of reappointment on 30 October 2017. Modi will continue as NIA chief 'until his retirement' on 31 May 2021.
Though the issue of 'appointment till superannuation' is being debated in official circles because it is something rare in view of the normal practice of saying 'appointment till further orders'. It may be said that Modi is among one of the most privileged officers whose appointment order has been worded differently.
