The man was supposed to uphold the law, but he turned rogue. According to police, a 2014 IPS officer on probation Safeer Karim, serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nanguneri sub-division, a taluk headquarters in Tirunelveli district,was caught using a Bluetooth device for cheating while appearing for the Civil Services (Main) Examination at the Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai on October 30. Police said Karim used the device to speak to his wife, who dictated the answers.
A resident of Kerala, Karim appeared for the exam as he wanted to be an IAS officer.
Karim has been taken into custody and charged under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating and dishonesty). Since his wife is in Hyderabad, a senior police officer said they have sought the help of their counterparts in Hyderabad to take her into custody. "A team of officers from Chennai will go to Hyderabad soon," said the officer.
Karim is also said to have been engaged in extra-curricular activities like running coaching institutes for civil services exam.
