Ranchi (11.12.2024):Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has raised questions on the panel of IPS officers sent to decide names which included the name of Ajay Kumar Singh (IPS: 1989: JH) who was removed twice from the post of full-time DGP and again after conclusion of Assembly elections.
UPSC asked under what circumstances, he was removed from the post? The Commission also asked questions to the State Government on some other points and demanded documents. On July 26, the state government removed Ajay Kumar Singh from the post of DGP.
While returning the panel, UPSC had cited the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Prakash Singh vs Union of India and asked under what circumstances the regular DGP Ajay Kumar Singh was removed and Anurag Gupta(IPS: 1990: JH) was made the in-charge DGP. On order of Election Commission of India, Singh was appointed DGP again but after the new government under Hemant Soren taking over, Gupta was reinstated again as interim DGP.
