The
decision of Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to transfer four IPS
officers without bringing it to the notice of the Congressman Home Minister
M.B. Patil, who assumed office last month, has caused another flashpoint in the
tenous and difficult coalition between JD(S) and Congress. IPS
officers B.S. Lokesh Kumar, K.T. Balakrishna, P. Rajendra Prasad, and R. Ramesh
were transferred on Thursday. Though
it is the Chief Minister’s prerogative to transfer IPS officers, Congress
believes that doing so without the consent of the department concerned was not
a good precedent. Congress
Ministers and party legislators have been alleging interference of the JD(S) in
transfers and postings of officials which, they say, has been making them lose
face in the public.
