New Delhi (27.09.2024): After a long deliberation, Parliamentary Standing Committees have been constituted with former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor heading the crucial panel on External Affairs while BJP's Bhartruhari Mahtab will be heading the Finance Committee.
These department related Standing Committees represented by various political parties function as mini Parliament to oversee operations of different ministries and departments. The Defence Committee will be chaired by former Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Home Affairs Committee will be headed by Radha Mohan Das Agarwal.
NCP's Lok Sabha member Sunil Tatkare will head the Petroleum and Natural Gas committee while Shiv Sena's Appa Barne will lead the Energy committee. Janata Dal (U)'s Sanjay Jha has been appointed as chair of Transport, Tourism and Culture committee. TDP's Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy will chair the Housing and Urban Affairs committee.
Congress member Charanjit Singh Channi will be heading the Agriculture, Animal husbandry and Food processing committee while Saptagiri Ulaka of the Congress will chair the Panchayati Raj Committee. Former Union Ministers Anurag Thakur will chair Coal, Mines and Steel Committee and Rajiv Pratap Rudy will be the Chairman of Water Resources committee. BJP's Nishi Kant Dubey will head the Communications and Information Technology committee.
