NMML Society reconstituted, trace of Congress erased

The BJP has not succeeded in making the country Congress-free as yet but it has definitely been able to make an institution Congress-free by reconstituting Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) Society with the ouster of Mallikarjun Kharge, Karan Singh and Jairam Ramesh from it.

The reconstituted body has been announced with television journalist Rajat Sharma and ad-man Prasoon Joshi making it to the list. Some other names who have been dropped included former minister MJ Akbar, former army chief VP Malik, Infosys co-founder NR Narayanamurthy, historian Nayanjot Lahiri, economist Bibek Debroy, space scientist K Kasturirangan and television anchor Arnab Goswami.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is president of the society and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh its vice president. Union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Prakash Javadekar, V Muraleedharan and Prahlad Singh Patel, ICCR chairman Vinay Sahsrabudhhe, Prasar Bharti chairman A Surya Prakash, secretaries of Expenditure, Culture and Housing and Urban Affairs, are its members.

Karnataka, Kamal and Kamal Nath: BJP’s opponents under constant pressure

Union minister and SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal tweeted removing Kamal Nath from the post of MP CM for his involvement in 1984 Sikh riots case but it has a bigger political implication both for the BJP and the Congress alike. What is that?

The Congress has been accusing the BJP of its alleged intention of destabilizing Congress governments in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh after Karnataka government was taken over by the BJP replacing the Congress. Actually it has been NaMo-Shah strategy to keep their opponents on tenterhooks by keeping them under pressure. This seems to be the approach towards these states as well.

However, the BJP is in no position to do anything in Chhattisgarh but yes in MP they might do something if not topple the government, speculation is rife that Jyotiraditya Scindia may replace Kamal Nath in MP as Jyotiraditya Scindia joining the BJP will have its own bearing the party and the BJP would eschew to go for any such move. A crippled non-performing government equally suits the BJP.

Not opening many fronts at the same time, the BJP will go slow in Rajasthan as Sachin Pilot has not forgotten that he was denied his due as CM’s post was given to Ashok Gehlot but Sachin will have to wait for some more time. This is clear that the NDA leadership does not do anything in such a way that anyone can read, understand or fathom their next move.

Did Jairam Ramesh hit the Bulls Eye?

By IndianMandarins 09 Sep 2019

The BJP might have earned applaud from all across sans handful opposition leaders over abrogation of Article 370 & 35A, but current economic slowdown with GDP @ 5 % appears to be the point on which opposition can take on BJP.

Taking a cue, Jairam Ramesh took a lead in social media when he tweeted that “Ever know what NITI in Niti Ayog stands for? It’s clearly Not In Touch With India”.

In a select gathering of retired bureaucrats, his pot-shot at NITI Aayog had become the center of discussion. A former Secretary of a key department observed that when the opposition leaders are clueless over how to make their criticism correct, sharp and acceptable to the masses, Ramesh’s Tweet seems to have hit bulls eye as it was well received in social media. Another retired civil servant observed that most of the opposition leaders have lost their credibility whereas a few still remain acceptable and authentic in public. So it was his clean image and not sharpness of his Tweet that made it effective.

BJP to train its MPs on public speaking, ideology in a two day camp

By IndianMandarins 02 Aug 2019

New Delhi: To tell its lawmakers how to behave, the ruling party at the Centre -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -- has planned a two-day training camp in the Balayogi Auditorium in New Delhi on August 3-4, 2019. Every member of Parliament of the BJP from both the houses will have to compulsory show up at the event to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with many other senior leaders.

The BJP leaders are of the view that this is an attempt of the saffron outfit to train and sensitise all its 381 members of Parliament on the issues related to parliamentary practice, debates, party ideology, public speech, handling media and even the internal issues of the party.

The meeting is important because of the fact that training session would give clarity to the BJP MPs on ideological issues which is important for the BJP. They will also be told not to speak out of turn and on such subjects that they are not well equipped with. The meeting will not only attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on both days but he is likely to speak at the event as well.

Sources in the BJP said that the meeting will also be addressed by speakers not only from the BJP but outside the party as well on specialized subjects. Besides the PM and Union Home minister Amit Shah, there is a possibility that party general secretary and in-charge of BJP training cell Muralidhar Rao might also address it. All the MPs have been asked to attend this meeting without a miss. Actually the BJP wants to pull string on some of motor mouths in the party by telling them how to speak saving the party from any unnecessary controversy and embarrassment due to some of its own leaders.

Sources further informed that this is a hectic meeting that would start at 9 am and would finish at 9 pm. MPs will get breakfast, lunch and dinner at the venue itself. Training cell of the BJP has major role to play in it as it is continuously doing the same but at smaller level. It will take up many issues including etiquette and how to deal with media which is a major concern of the party.

Sources are not ready to divulge any further detail about the programme but the purpose of the entire exercise is to ensure that certain basic things are required for a MP, minister and people having organizational responsibilities.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) too keeps on doing such training camps for its workers but this would be the first such event when all BJP MPs will be participating in such a mega event that is dubbed as (Abhyas Varg).

congress-mns-alliance-may-prove-to-be-counterproductive-for-the-party

Congress-MNS alliance may prove to be counterproductive for the party

By IndianMandarins 14 Jul 2019

New Delhi: The Congress has appointed a new president for Maharashtra as Balasaheb Thorat who is in favour of alliance with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the Assembly elections in the state along with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) which is stronger than the Congress at the moment at least the 2019 Lok Sabha elections suggests so.

Such indications of Congress-MNS alliance started being talked about when MNS chief Raj Thackerey met with United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi recently. Apparently the entire move is to counter the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in the state which has decimated the Congress-NCP alliance in the state. Now, on the other hand All India Majlish-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has told the Vanchit Bahujan Agadi (VBA) headed by Prakash Ambedkar to contest 100 Assembly seats out of 288 seats in the state.

This is to remind that instead of managing its own support base, the Congress attempt to steal into the vote banks of other political parties might prove to be counter-productive. Dalits and Muslims had been the core vote bank of the Congress for very long time besides a few other sections in Maharashtra but a new social engineering of Assaduddin Owaisi and Preakash Ambedkar has brought Dalits and Muslims under a new platform which helped the alliance to snatch Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat from the Shiv Sena. If they are planning to field candidates on 100 seats in Maharashtra that will have definite impact not only on the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance but will harm more to the Congress-NCP in the state.

Bringing MNS into the Congress-NCP alliance is a double-edged sword, if it will bring some Maratha votes to the alliance then it will drive away not only Muslim vote but north-Indians votes as well from the Congress-NCP combine and AIMIM and VBA combined are ready to take Muslims hand in hand and north Indians going to the BJP-Shiv Sena fold. These two communities are decisive in certain pockets in the state. Dalits will also be lured by Ambedkar. So the attempt of the Congress and the NCP will go in vein if the VBA accepts proposal of the AIMIM. The AIMIM was an old ally of the Congress but they had developed differences and parted ways just before 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

On the other hand the BJP and the Shiv Sena are working on their original plan with Shiv Sena taking the hardliner stands while the BJP talking about taking everyone along. The alliance has been able to deliver best-ever performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections but Assembly elections are different. They have decided much in advance that they will be contesting equal number of seats leaving others much behind in terms of polls strategy.

is-operation-lotus-a-ceaseless-political-exercise-for-bjp

Is Operation Lotus a ceaseless political exercise for BJP?

By IndianMandarins 13 Jul 2019

New Delhi: Apparently Operation Lotus seems to have become a continuous process across the country, it is not a need-based phenomenon like in Karnataka where not only the Congress but also Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs have resigned from their respective parties but also in Goa and many other undisclosed places. They will come to surface only once the task is accomplished.

The BJP is not only focusing on the area where it does not have any presence but also in areas where it further needs strengthening of the party. Sources informed that the BJP is working among OBC leadership in Tamil Nadu, the community which is sizable in number and some big leaders may join the BJP in the state. In Goa, the Congress is left with five MLAs which was the single largest party when elections had happened.

The BJP is very active in Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal but gradually it is reaching out to such leaders who are not given their due. Political analysts say that indecisiveness or laid back attitude of the Congress and many other political parties is also playing a big role in disenchantment of these leaders. The entire northeast has become NDA-ruled state with the same tactics of winning over people either in the BJP or in NDA.

So not much is left in the northern part of the country but Bihar and Jharkhand too is under the scanner of the BJP with lots of regional forces strongly present in many other states. Some coup might happen in these areas. The BJP leadership is of the view that it does not want to ride piggyback on any political party in Tamil Nadu and even in AP so they are trying to build something its own.

Though the party feels that despite the BJP failing to win any seat in Kerala, there is a ripple  for the party in the state as in West Bengal, Odisha and Telengana but in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu the BJP is still an outsider and not accepted. To be precise, these are the two states where Modi factor did not work rather they voted against Modi. So the party is working hard in these states. Infighting in Tamil Nadu BJP is another factor that is the roadblock in the expansion of the party in the state. But the party feels that nothing could be as difficult as West Bengal and if the party manages to win seats in Bengal, Andhra and Tamil Nadu too will come their way with little more efforts. So be ready for some more surprises where your imaginations would not have reached with BJP winning over some regional satraps.

is-the-congress-looking-at-priyanka-as-its-hope-for-future

Is the Congress looking at Priyanka as its hope for future?

By IndianMandarins 10 Jul 2019

New Delhi: Is the first family of the Congress silently grooming another member of the family for the top job in the party in the days to come? Actually the way Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is slowly but steadily working in the party, it appears that she is the next leader to take up the top job in the Congress obviously not immediately but may be sometimes just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Priyanka Gandhi is general secretary of the party at the moment and like many other leaders she did not resign from the post in view of poll debacle of the party. She even did not speak much about the resignation of Rahul Gandhi only saying that she respect his brother’s decision on the issue. But like many other leaders in the Congress who are keeping silent unless it becomes mandatory for them to speak, Priyanka is taking on the government and the Bharatiya Janata Party by her tweets and many other ways.

Though this might be a very far-fetched conclusion but still hold the ground that in view of Rahul Gandhi deciding to stick to his decision of not continuing as party chief the family may push forward her for the top job. Not only they but the entire party knows it very well that only Gandhies can run the show in the Congress but to blunt the argument of the BJP that only Gandhies can become president of the party, they will make some temporary arrangement as party chief before she takes over.

Though she has been a complete failure in eastern Uttar Pradesh and even her brother lost his seat in Amethi but this is true that she has been able to generate hope in the party workers in the eastern Uttar Pradesh as for them she appears to be more balanced, more articulate, better communicator and with better body language. She being a woman is another advantage for her. Her speeches are small and to the point without any goof ups. She is taking on the BJP on twitter and posing some difficult questions. The task is definitely arduous before her but if Rahul does not accept the challenge, she could be a safe bet for the Congress not only to keep the flocks together but also managing to regain its lost glory.
