New Delhi (29.04.2025): Two months ahead of superannuation the incumbent Union Secretary for Sports Sujata Chaturvedi (IAS: 1989: BH) has been appointed as Member, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) by the President of India under Article 316 (1) of the Constitution of India. She is scheduled to superannuate on 30 June 2025. Prior to becoming Union Secretary she worked as Additional Secretary (Establishment) in the Department of Personnel & Training (DoP&T). While serving the Cadre she served as Principal Secretary (Finance), Govt of Bihar; the first woman IAS officer to hold the position in Bihar. She also worked as Deputy Director General, UIDAI.   
Her tenure would be six years from the date she enters upon the office of Member, UPSC or until he/she attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
The term of appointment of members of UPSC is regulated in accordance with the provisions of Article 316 (2) of the Constitution of India, and the conditions of service is governed by UPSC (Members) Regulations, 1969, as amended from to time.
The UPSC is headed by a chairperson and can have a maximum of 10 members. The UPSC conducts civil services examination annually in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview.
