New Delhi (24.06.2023):Shefali Juneja (IRS: 1992), India’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization, has been elected as the first vice president of ICAO which is United Nations’ specialized aviation arm.
Juneja is the first women to represent India in ICAO. Last October, she was unanimously elected as chairperson of the ICAO’s air transport committee (ATC). India had then won this coveted position in ICAO after 28 years.
Juneja has occupied various positions in ICAO as chair of implementation and strategic policy group; group on gender leading to first time a mission statement being adopted by ICAO. In 2021 she was elected as the first woman chair of aviation security committee and also held position as chair of innovation.
