New Delhi (01.02.2023):The Supreme Court Collegium recommended names of two high court judges eligible for the appointment to the SC. The Collegium finds the following persons suitable for being appointed as Judges of the SC.
Mr Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.
Mr Justice Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, High Court of Gujarat.
On 13 December 2022, the Collegium recommended five names for appointment as Judges of the SC, namely (i) Mr Justice Pankaj Mithal, (ii) MrJustice Sanjay Karol, (iii) MrJustice P V Sanjay Kumar, (iv) MrJustice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and (v) MrJustice Manoj Misra. Their appointment is yet to be notified by the Government. The Collegium recommended two more names for appointment as Judges against the two remaining vacancies.
The SC has a sanctioned strength of thirty four Judges and is presently functioning with twenty seven Judges. Thus, there are seven clear vacancies.
