Lucknow (31.05.2025): The Uttar Pradesh government has announced Rajiv Krishna (IPS: 1991: UP), currently DG Vigilance, as the officiating DGP replacing Prashant Kumar (IPS: 1990: UP). Prashant Kumar worked as acting state DGP w.e.f. 31.01.2024 till his retirement today. Rajiv Krishna is the fifth acting DGP of UP in the last three years.

UP's new DGP Rajiv Krishna will hold the responsibility of three posts simultaneously including the post of DG, Vigilance and Chairman of Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.

Rajiv Krishna, one of the youngest IPS officers to head the state police force, will continue in service till June 2029. 

It may also be underlined that the Yogi administration remained silent on sending a panel to UPSC for the selection of the new DGP and alternatively, it didn’t even constitute a committee under the new rules made by the state government for the selection of state DGP to retain Kumar as the state DGP.

It is understood that the Yogi administration's decision has indicated very well that Rajiv Krishna would be regularised as a full-fledged State DGP; though not very soon.
