Lucknow (13.05.2025): Speculation is rife that who would be the next police chief of Uttar Pradesh as incumbent acting DGP Prashant Kumar (IPS: 1990: UP) is retiring on May 31, 2025. The officials of the Home Department are silent on sending panels to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of the new DGP. Moreover, no committee has been formed yet under the new rules made by the state government for the selection of DGP.
The names that are doing round for the post included BSF DG Daljit Singh Chaudhary (IPS: 1990: UP), DG SPG Alok Sharma (IPS: 1991: UP) and Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board Rajiv Krishna (IPS: 1991: UP). Apart from all these names, the name of existing DG Training Tilottama Verma (IPS: 1990: UP) is also included. Tilottama may become the first woman DGP of UP if anointed to the post. Her husband Ashish Gupta (IPS: 1989: UP) may also have been in the reckoning, had he not applied for VRS last month.
