New Delhi (09.03.2022): A section of officials in the Railway Board says that Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) Rahul Jain resumed office on Wednesday after three months long extraordinary leave. Reportedly, the establishment did not accept his VRS request following which he was recalled to resume duties.

Contrary to this a section of senior officials say that Rahul Jain’s VRS has already been accepted and he might have joined to sign papers for retirement on March 15; fifteen days ahead of scheduled/normal retirement on March 31.

At the same time, there are rumors that he has pulled strings and may even be angling for an extension beyond March which seems unlikely as it will be a major loss of face for the Minister.

It may be underlined that Jain, a GoI secretary-rank officer, was in November 2021 asked by the superior authorities to proceed on leave till retirement five months away. Later Jain had on 19.01.2022 put in his papers requesting the Government of India for Voluntary Retirement from Service w.e.f. 15 March; seven weeks ahead of superannuation age.
