Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
Monday inaugurated the first greenfield-airport (11th airport of the
country) of Sikkim at Paykong; around 32 km from Gangtok. Sikkim's dream of having
an airport came true 09 years after a foundation stone for it was laid in 2009. From 04 October the first
commercial flight would begin from Paykong; an airport which is
meant to pave the way for direct connectivity to Sikkim. Paykong airport is spread
across over 202 acres and it is located around 59 km from the Indo-China
border. The airport is located on the top of a hill about two km above Pakyong
village at 4,500 feet above sea level.
