NEW DELHI (02.06.2026): The Centre has appointed Lokhande Prashant Sitaram (IAS: 2001: AGMUT), Additional Secretary, Home Ministry, as the new Chairman of the CBSE replacing Rahul Singh (IAS: 1996: BH). Varun Bhardwaj (IInfoS: 2008) has been appointed as the Secretary of the CBSE replacing Himanshu Gupta (IAS: 2012: AGMUT) following controversies and technical glitches surrounding the board’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. 

Further, Rahul Singh has been laterally shifted to Additional Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare as Additional Secretary while Himanshu Gupta has been prematurely repatriated to parent cadre (MHA) with the condition of ‘extended cooling off’. Gupta will be eligible for another central deputation after 12.12.2030.
