New Delhi (15.10.2024): It may be termed as mere coincidence but endorses a pattern if the buzz about Haryana becomes a reality. The BJP is going to take over reins in the state for the third consecutive terms which coincides with superannuation of incumbent Chief Secretary (CS) TVSN Prasad (IAS: 1988: HY). So, it is likely that another Union Secretary may be repatriated to the cadre to take over as the next CS of Haryana.
There had been at least three such instances in the recent past when Secretary-level officers at the Centre were repatriated to their respective parent cadres and appointed as chief secretaries. The most recent being Road Transport & Highways Secretary Anurag Jain (IAS: 1989: MP) who was repatriated to take over as Madhya Pradesh CS. Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena (IAS: 1989: BH) and Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant (IAS: 1991: RJ) were other examples who were repatriated to take over as CS in Bihar and Rajasthan respectively.
Prasad is retiring this month end. A section of insiders says that the Centre may repatriate DoPT Secretary Vivek Joshi (IAS: 1989: HY) to Cadre as next CS who has fairly long terms in service i.e. 31.05.2026.
